The Sam460ex board
ACube Systems unveiled their next mainboard: the Sam460ex.
The board is the third product in the 4×0 series after the Sam440ep and the Sam440ep-flex. Sporting the AMCC 460ex SoC processor it features modern technologies like PCI-Express, Gigabit ethernet, USB 2.0. A full list of features has been published on the above link.
Debian Linux already runs on the pre-production board (screenshots here, here, here, here and here). While AmigaOS 4.1 support has not been officially announced so far, it’s very likely that work is already in progress on a port for this board.
ACube Systems will attend the Amiga 25th Anniversary Vintage Computer Fair in London and chances are high that we will see a first version of AmigaOS 4.1 running on the Sam460ex.
At the same event A-EON technologies will demonstrate, for the first time, the new High End Amiga One X1000 running AmigaOS 4.1.
June 2010 will probably be remembered in the (tormented) History of the Amiga Platform.

Questione di accenti

Qualche tempo fa ho sostituito la fida ma vetusta tastiera USB che usavo sulla Sam440ep-flex con una nuova scintillante tastiera (sempre USB ovviamente). Beh in realtà si tratta di una tastiera da pochi euro ma il colore e il design si sposavano perfettamente con il case e il monitor 
Con mio sommo disappunto notai quasi subito che il tasto ù (si, la u accentata) non funzionava. Una seccatura, visto che la vecchia tastiera funzionava correttamente.

OWB for AmigaOS 4!

Finally! A modern browser released for AmigaOS 4.
The port was done by my friend Andrea Palmatè, a very skilled programmer, author of the AmigaOS 4 port of mPlayer and other nice programs. You can find more details on its webpage.
Ok, it’s only the core engine.
Ok, you must specify the URL at the command line.
Ok, it’s a bit slow (because of the use of SDL, I think).
Ok, It lacks a proper interface… for now.
But it’s a huuuuuge step forward for the Amiga platform. Thanks mate!
I urge anybody who still care about software development (and software developers) on Amiga to donate immediately using the Paypal button on Andrea’s homepage.
